Thanks Kay - I certainly didn't anticipate the video would get as wide a circulation as it has... as of this writing it's been viewed over 60,000 times and I've moderated/approved over 700 comments... It certainly brings the issue of kids being on Y…

I loved her take on the President's speech. She got the just of it - what can I do to contribute to our society. I think people overreacted to the President's intent and I think those individuals damaged their child's ability to respect the Presiden…

Digital Dialog: The Intersection of Technology, Learning and Faith

Cross-posted to Eyes Right.

I'm planning on facilitating a class this fall at our church on Wednesday nights which I'm titling, "Digital Dialog: The Intersection of Technology, Learning and Faith." This will be a 15 week course at First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, Oklahoma, and class will begin (I expect) at… Continue

Digital Dialog wiki

I've created a Digital Dialog wiki to accompany this site, and serve as a curriculum portal for a class I'm planning to co-teach with my father in law next fall:

http://digitaldialog.pbwiki.com

We haven't finalized the class title, but I'm considering something like "Digital Dialog and Digital Discipline: Conversations for Lifelong Learners." We're going to address a variety of topics extending well beyond Internet Safety: digital photography, Face… Continue

Thanks for the heads-up on inappropriate content

My apologies we had a spam blog post here on digital dialog, I have banned the member from the learning community.

I'm going to still leave the membership to this Ning open and unmoderated, hopefully we won't have more problems like this again.

It is sad to see the lengths spammers will go to reach our radar screens with content that is wholly inappropriate for a context like this. :-(

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you see anything here on our website that is inappropriate… Continue

Discussing profile pictures and avatars with kids

Have you had a conversation with your own children or students lately about their online profile? What's appropriate to use for a profile picture or avatar? What could the consequences be down the road (or right away) of using an inappropriate profile picture or avatar?

Some social networking sites use "gravatars" which can be "rated" like you rate movies.

New Internet Safety for parents resources

I have drafted a new presentation / workshop for parents that I will be sharing twice later this month in the Oklahoma City area. I have titled it "Internet Safety and Social Networking for Parents."

http://teachdigital.pbwiki.com/internetsafety

At the suggestion of Karen Montgomery I added resources related to instant messaging yesterday. I would love feedback on the content and links.

I am also wondering about the best way to share these resources with parents. I am considering writing the… Continue
