Digital Dialog

safe, appropriate, and fun uses of digital technologies!

I have drafted a new presentation / workshop for parents that I will be sharing twice later this month in the Oklahoma City area. I have titled it "Internet Safety and Social Networking for Parents." http://teachdigital.pbwiki.com/internetsafety At the suggestion of Karen Montgomery I added resources related to instant messaging yesterday. I would love feedback on the content and links. I am also wondering about the best way to share these resources with parents. I am considering writing the material outlined here in narrative form and sharing it as a booklet- with some print versions and others on CD for parents. What are your thoughts about the best things to try and out in parent's hands on this topic? A tri-fold brochure that has some info and points to the website? A CD with a PDF of the booklet and some videos as well as links? DVDs are still cost prohibitive but I could do CDs. What ate the best and most helpful materials you've seen distributed at conferences or PTA/PTO meetings on Internet safety that people actually used and found helpful? Wes

Great wiki site! We are working to develop parent nights to help explain the tools students are using academically and personally. Our thoughts are to develop a website off our school site that defines terms, tools and how to make each one as safe as possible. By being on the web, we can update frequently without having to remake handouts. However, we will create a flyer with facts and a link to the website. We would really like to teach the classes to small groups of parents in our computer labs so that they can have hands on knowledge of the tools.
